In this lesson we'll take a look at modern industrial horizontal axis wind turbine generators. We'll examine the rotor, the yaw system, the blade pitching mechanisms and back up power systems found in the hub, elements found on the wind station including wind vanes, anemometers, and obstruction lights, those components in the nacelle including the main shaft, gearbox, high speed shaft, coupling, generator, controller and parking brake, the tower and load handling equipment, as well as the accessory electrical components in the down tower assembly. We'll additionally briefly introduce elements commonly found in wind farms like met towers, collector substations, operations and maintenance facilities, SCADA systems, and battery storage.
