Observability is the cornerstone of our modern distributed systems - if your app has services, having an observable system is crucial. But what if we applied the same logic to living things? This talk introduces my python-coded virtual cat, Meow'py, and basic functions of OpenTelemetry with Elastic Observability. I will show the basic data flow of my app, give a quick code deep dive, and present a demo of Meow'py enjoying his habitat (AKA eating, pooping, attempting escapes..) as his observability stats fluctuate in our Kibana dashboard. Attendees will leave with a greater understanding of OpenTelemetry, and learn the benefits of implementing observability to the internet of things, living or not.
