A introduction to some of the most fundamental concepts in respiratory physiology. This will lay the groundwork for more advanced videos in physiology still to come.
0:00 Introduction
1:18 The Respiratory Cycle
4:58 V/Q Matching
11:41 Gas Exchange
18:27 Summary
Certain topics have been deliberately left out of this particular video (e.g. alveolar gas and alveolar ventilation equations, compliance of lungs vs. chest wall, diffusion limited vs. perfusion limited gases, etc...). I find that physiology is easier to understand if several central topics in an organ system are first introduced on a relatively simple level (e.g. minimal equations), and are then later revisited for more in-depth discussions once the learner has some general understanding of how each topic relates to the others.
