Blocking mats are a pretty essential tool in the knitting and crochet toolbox, necessary if you want to make more advanced projects like garments, cables, and lace. Fortunately, there plenty of things you might already have on hand that can act as DIY blocking mats if you don’t own any.

Use foam garage mats, an old yoga mat, or a car sunshade as blocking mats...or anything other relatively sturdy surface which can hold your pins in place and which won't be too damaged by a little water.
