It's early evening in Edinburgh. Following a satisfyingly exhausting day of back-to-back author talks at Cymera Festival, Ross and Laura collapse onto a bench in the quad, where they meet a very charismatic dog called Leon, and his owner.
One year later, Leon's owner's debut novel launches to critical acclaim. Leon's owner is Annabel Campbell, the author of The Outcast Mage, the thrilling first book in a trilogy of desert fantasy novels described by Trudi Canavan as "truly enchanting".
