Across the Arctic, polar bear moms and their tiny cubs are tucked safely inside snow dens. 🐻❄️
This period, also known as denning, is the most vulnerable time in a polar bear’s life. With partners including in Polar Bears International Svalbard, Norway, we’re studying denning polar bear families to understand their needs and how increasing human activities in the Arctic may affect them.
Using remote, solar-powered cameras, we can study polar bear denning behavior to better understand the impact of climate warming on denning cub survival rates and provide insight into how bears select their dens.
