The Academy’s International Feature Film category celebrates global storytelling and the connection between filmmakers around the world. Established in 1956, the award continues to evolve, most recently expanding eligibility to include filmmakers with refugee or asylum status representing their country of residence.
Each year, submissions are reviewed by the International Feature Film Executive Committee, with over 2,000 Academy members volunteering to watch and vote for the shortlisted films and nominees.
Special thanks to the Executive Committee and its co-chairs for their leadership, and to all Academy voters whose dedication makes this award possible.
Oscar Nominee Spotlights are made possible by the Ruderman Family Foundation, which promotes authentic representation in the entertainment industry and full inclusion of people with disabilities throughout all sectors of society.
