Curveball thrown by International Cub Cadet 782 Lawn Tractor Mower! The International Cub Cadet 782 Lawn Tractor Mower got it's head gasket replaced this week. But International Cub Cadet 782 Lawn Tractor Mower still had low compression. One side of International Cub Cadet 782 Lawn Tractor Mower engine was 103 PSI and the other was 74 PSI. So after I took the head off this KT17 Kohler engine I saw part of the gasket just fall off. So I assumed it was the head gasket. So I resurfaced International Cub Cadet 782 Lawn Tractor Mower head after cleaning it up. I resurfaced the Kohler KT17 K series engine head by using sandpaper on a flat surface like my marble counter top, and used wet sandpaper to go in a circular motion until the mounting surface was all even.
I mounted the head back on International Cub Cadet 782 Lawn Tractor Mower with a new gasket, torqued to 25 ft lbs. Still got the same compression though. So I checked out the valves and found the intake valve had zero clearance with the lifter at TDC. The exhaust had 0.009 clearance, which is out of spec, but not dramatically. So I cleaned the valves with scotch brite and a drill and will clean all the carbon off everything. The valves seem alright, not major flaws. So I will lap them in and take some fine sandpaper and reseat them and grind down the end of the stem to fit tolerance spec on the International Cub Cadet 782 Lawn Tractor Mower.
