Restoring this International Cub Cadet 782 Lawn Tractor Mower. The International Cub Cadet 782 Lawn Tractor Mower was built from 1979 - 1985. The International Cub Cadet 782 Lawn Tractor Mower uses the 17HP Kohler 691cc 2-cyl gasoline engine (Kohler KT-17). My International Cub Cadet 782 Lawn Tractor Mower has a series II.
Most of my International Cub Cadet 782 Lawn Tractor Mower is in good condition. The smoking on start up and initial drive is something I need to look into closer. The guy I bought International Cub Cadet 782 Lawn Tractor Mower off of said he never had to use the choke, so that told me it was running rich. After I took the spark plugs out of International Cub Cadet 782 Lawn Tractor Mower I saw they were black, but not oily. So I am going to replace the fuel lines, filter and it looks like the shut off valve is leaking. So I am replacing that all. As well as putting the carburetor back to factory settings.

Kohler KT17 Series I Engine Issues Mentioned in Forums:
"As for the KT17 Series I engines, they are pressure lubed, but the rod journals weren't. When you got on a hill, the journals came out of the oil and fried. The series II engines added a oil port to the rod journals to remedy the problem."
"Watch out for the 2 cylinder series I kohler engines, these use splash lubrication opposed to pressurized so when running on a grade its possible to starve the upper cylinder of oil."
