Interlocking SR series. Part 5 #FairyLacefromElena

Split rings can be used to create much more than individual motifs. When they are interlocked one after another, they can form a continuous structure that resembles a delicate handmade chain.

In this part of my Interlocking SR Series, I explore this construction in needle tatting. The technique creates a fascinating connection between one ring and the next, allowing the separate elements to become a flexible chain.

This kind of structure can be especially interesting for tatting jewelry, decorative borders, pendants, and other designs where a chain-like element is needed. It is another example of how changing the way a familiar tatting element is constructed can open up completely new design possibilities.

I enjoy discovering these little structural tricks in tatting — sometimes a simple change in construction makes the lace behave in an entirely different way.
