Unusual construction of this early LED lamp demonstrates how white light is produced using blue/UV LEDs. This lamp is now obsolete with a lower efficiency and larger heat output than modern lamps. It uses 9 high intensity Luxeon Rebel LEDs soldered onto ceramic insulators which are mounted to the heat-sink body of the lamp. The separate fluorescent covers convert UV light from the LEDs to yellow producing an overall white light. The lamp consumes just over 12W and has an output similar to a 60W GLS lamp. The lamps is well made and construction explains the high cost when first introduced in 2010.
