Intel has released a "refresh" of its Core Ultra processors in the form of the Core Ultra 7 270K Plus and the Core Ultra 5 250K Plus. The thing that's interesting here is there is no Core Ultra 9 in this refresh. Instead, you're getting more affordable CPUs which boast more "performance per dollar". Indeed the Core Ultra 7 270K Plus has the same setup as the previous Core Ultra 9 285K in that it has 24 cores and 24 threads (8 performance cores, 16 efficiency cores).
I've been using the Core Ultra 7 270K Plus in a build with the Corsair 3200 case, so I want to talk to you about the interesting things about this new CPU refresh.
That includes:
- A more affordable price at a time when PC prices are insane
- Works with LGA1851 motherboards (e.g. Z890 boards)
- Improved performance (at 1080p) vs older CPUs and competition
- A simplified setup (install IPPP + GPU Driver + NPU Driver + Windows Update + BIOS update = ready for play.)
- Optimisation for balanced power settings in Windows
- Higher scores in Cinebench
- Both Intel APO and Binary optimisation for specific games via Intel Performance Platform Package
- Surprisingly good temperatures both while gaming and when benchmarking too
- Support for 7200MT/s RAM in an era where RAM is unaffordable
So yeah, interesting stuff maybe?
