The predominant focus and mental models that we have of teaching are fixed around ideas of instruction. Students are seen as empty vessels who learn as knowledge is transmitted from one generation to the next. But we don’t learn through transmission, we learn by reconstruction. We have to reconstruct the knowledge from the ground up in our own way for us to actually understand something completely.
