Today was a beautiful spring day in the mountains of Asheville,NC we are installing a 4 lbs box of Italian honey bees, with a Russian queen. (Approx 15,000 bees) Once the honey bees are in the new hive. The queen will remain in her cage until she is used to the smell of the hive.... In a few days, the worker bees will eat through the sugar block which blocks her exit. Once the queen gets busy laying eggs, the colony should expand to about 70,000 bees. We should have honey to harvest by July or early August..
