I've been meaning to make such a tutorial since 2024 but I haven't had the time due to other commitments. This will only work on the 2021-revision LeapPad Academy units running on the Rockchip RK3326. You can identify one as such by the lack of Bluetooth support and the FCC ID G2R-6022.
There are also two sub-variants of this revision with a different display unit and firmware. Here's a GitHub gist of what you need to download for your device: gist.github.com/huckleberrypie/31dbc459af26f13fe9697aaa11e05324
Mad props to @R0rt1z2 and @TBM13 of GitHub for helping with making this hack possible. And of course to LeapFrog/VTech as they opened up the kernel sources (though in this case the stock kernel was used for the time being) and they somehow made the second-gen LeapPad unlocked lel
