Insta360 is always pushing boundaries with their updates, and their latest, Adaptive Tone, might just be a game-changer! But what exactly is it?
In simple terms, Adaptive Tone works by capturing a wider range of image data. It then intelligently optimizes the brightness, contrast, and color based on the specific frame or angle you're viewing, giving you a perfectly balanced and natural-looking image.
Note:
◾ Requires X5 firmware: v1.1.22 (Official)
➡ Adaptive Tone is compatible exclusively with video mode settings of 8K30 and 5.7K30 HDR ON, as well as PureVideo mode.
➡ Activation of this feature is expected to lead to increased power consumption, resulting in a decrease in battery life and a more rapid increase in operating temperature.
➡ Export times may vary depending on the device, potentially extending by 20% to 100%.
What is the difference between HDR and Adaptive Tone?
HDR: Captures a wider dynamic range in real-time by balancing highlights and shadows, resulting in more natural and detailed footage straight out of the camera.
Adaptive Tone: Focuses on capturing a full range of image data first, then enhances the final look during export. It allows the app or Studio to optimize brightness, contrast, and color based on the selected frame or angle.
In this video, I put Adaptive Tone to the test with some direct side-by-side comparisons. You'll see footage shot in standard video mode alongside clips captured with Adaptive Tone enabled. I can definitely see a noticeable difference – what do you think? Let me know in the comments below!
