Shankar studies natural language processing in an effort to better understand when and how language models learn from data. His ultimate goal is to gain a deeper understanding of the foundations of intelligence. In pursuit of this, he has worked with faculty in the Department of Computer Science on developing methods that enable language models such as ChatGPT to be lifelong learners.
