Bill Bunting is a native of Virginia Beach, VA, where an early interest in hurricanes sparked a life-long interest in all forms of severe weather. A graduate of the University of Oklahoma with a Bachelor's Degree majoring in meteorology and psychology, he has worked for the National Weather Service for over 36 years, primarily in the central and southern Plains at offices in Oklahoma City, Kansas City, and Fort Worth. He is currently the Chief of Forecast Operations at the NOAA/NWS Storm Prediction Center, where he is responsible for all watches, outlooks and mesoscale discussions produced by the center's 22-person forecast staff. In addition to severe thunderstorm forecasting, Bill's other weather-related interests include storm damage assessment and the role of expertise and judgment in the forecast decision process.
