This impressive lava tube formed around 30,000 years ago when lava poured from the earth. The top layer hardened to form a think crust, but underneath, the lava kept flowing. In some areas, the cave is up to 40ft wide and 15ft high, with the ceiling over 20ft thick. This keeps the temperature inside the subway at a constant 40ºf.
