King Edward IV, the first sovereign of the House of York, reigned twice: first from 1461 to 1470, then from 1471 to 1483 after defeating Henry VI. He built St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle, intended as his mausoleum. Edward died suddenly aged forty in 1483, and his elaborate tomb plans were still incomplete and they would remain so. He was therefore buried in an unmarked vault beside the chapel's high altar. In 1789, the vault was discovered and explored, revealing Edward's embalmed remains and the scant human remains of his queen, Elizabeth Woodville. in this video we explore what was found and what was removed from the vault!
