The debate over private money in higher education is loud, emotional, and not usually backed by sufficient evidence. One reason for this is that the evidence of private giving to universities is located in millions of tax filings, which are difficult to read and analyze. AEI’s Center for the Future of the American University Affiliate Tao Tan has developed a tool to help researchers, university leaders, and the public understand this information more easily.
Join us for the launch of the AEI Searchable Open University Records of Charitable Expenditures (AEI SOURCE)—a free AI-enhanced database of 1.1 million foundation grants made since 2008 from 57,000 private foundations to America’s colleges and universities. Mr. Tan will explain how and why he developed AEI SOURCE, how to use it, and what initial findings it has revealed.
