We traveled to the border towns along the New Mexico-Mexico border, where some communities sit just a mile from the line. We wanted to see what life is like in these rarely-reported-on areas. We had about “colonias” and wanted to know if they exist. Along the way, we spoke with a handful of locals who shared their perspectives—the good and the bad—on life in this unique region. In the end, we found a tight-knit community of people who, despite the challenges, take deep pride in their home.
