This is my first Podcast interview! I realized that I have SO many interesting friends in my life, with fascinating stories. I am proud to introduce to you my friend and seasoned Hollywood film producer with an impressive track record of blockbuster hits. Renowned for his contributions to a multitude of successful films, including "Paul Blart Mall Cop," "Knight and Day" starring Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz, "Mortal Kombat," t"All My Life" featuring Jessica Rothe and Harry Shum, Jr., "Here Comes the Boom," ,"Tag," and Playing With Fire" starring John Cena, Sean Robins has continually demonstrated an unparalleled ability to captivate audiences with his unique storytelling and visionary filmmaking approach.
Our introduction happened through my respected Hollywood agent, Matt Leipzig at Original Artists Agency. Matt pitched my film, "Objects Of Desire" to Sean, and we set up a meeting.
The genesis of "Objects Of Desire" draws from the haunting tale of "Bodies: The Exhibition," a groundbreaking science museum exhibit that made headlines for its controversial origins. Following an investigation by then-Attorney General Mario Cuomo, the exhibit's connection to the unsettling sourcing of human cadavers from living political prisoners in China came to light, leading to the eventual closure of the museum. Sean's early involvement in the project spurred the imaginative reimagining of this narrative, ultimately leading to the conception of a compelling storyline revolving around the clandestine world of plastination, where a secretive consortium of affluent individuals immortalizes human beauty through the eerie process of sculpting women into preserved artworks.
While Sean passed on my script "Objects Of Desire," our initial interaction sparked a creative exchange that left a lasting impression, paving the way for an insightful journey of shared ideas. Sean likes true stories, and he has a keen eye for stories that explore paranormal ideas.
He pitched a concept that had long intrigued him - a "true" incident based on the "Man From Taured." This intriguing narrative recounted the baffling tale of a man who seemingly vanished into thin air after arriving at Tokyo Airport in 1954 with a passport and documentation from an unknown country called "Taured."
I couldn't reconcile how to write a 90 minute feature based on an incident that lasted for minutes. "Where did the man vanish to?" I asked. Sean said "See that's it! That's for you to figure out!". I love a creative challenge, but on this one, nothing came to mind. Until one day, just sitting on the beach in Nice, I had the answer. "Man From Taured" could work as an inter-dimensional love story. Leveraging this newfound vision, I crafted a compelling treatment that garnered Sean's approval, leading us into an intensive development phase, where writing, "Man From Taured" became my full-time job. After two years, the script was finished.
Just as we prepared to pitch the project, unforeseen setbacks, including the global Covid pandemic and industry strikes, halted our progress, highlighting the unpredictable nature of the Hollywood landscape. Sean's insights, drawn from his extensive experience managing over 60 film and television projects, shed light on the intricate process of getting movies greenlit, emphasizing the significance of timing and industry dynamics. His account of "Playing with Fire" exemplifies the unpredictable journey of film projects in the industry
