In this episode of NYC Pizza Slices, I head to the East Village to investigate a dollar slice rumor that was hiding in plain sight. Recently, massive NYC Instagram accounts like Time Out New York and Secret NYC posted about a limited-time $1 slice promotion from Emmy Squared. But in the comments, another pizzeria jumped in with something surprising. Nateās Detroit Pizza commented that theyāve actually been doing $1 slices every Tuesday from 5:30ā6:30 PM for the past two years. Naturally, I had to go check if it was true.
I show up on a Tuesday evening and step inside Nateās Detroit Pizza, where vinyl records are spinning and a huge Notorious B.I.G. painting hangs on the wall. Sure enough, thereās signage out front confirming the weekly dollar slice window, and Nate himself is behind the counter serving pizza. The slices arenāt typical New York style either. Nateās specializes in Detroit-style pizza, which means square slices with a thick crust, crispy edges, and a crunchy bottom.
