Research supports walking training at high cardiovascular intensities to improve walking-related outcomes. High cardiovascular training levels have been defined in the literature as 70-85% of maximum heart rate or 60-80% of Heart Rate Reserve, a formula which factors in resting heart rate1. Unfortunately, this intensity can be difficult to achieve many times during gait training after stroke.

The gentleman pictured in the videos below is approximately 6 weeks post-stroke with moderate gait impairments. He has been on telemetry monitoring during his rehab stay and his therapists noticed that they were not able to achieve and maintain heart rates in the recommended ranges, due to both his gait impairments and his overall poor endurance.

When his therapist introduced the ReStore device into his therapy session, he was able to achieve notable improvements in gait speed and symmetry which facilitated longer bouts of higher intensity training - all within his first session with ReStore!
