BBC Earth Unplugged | Innovative Arctic Technique for Fishing Through Ice | BBC Earth Unplugged @earthunplugged | Uploaded October 2024 | Updated October 2024, 18 hours ago.
In Noorvik, a city in Alaska sitting 19 miles north of the Arctic Circle, fishing is an essential part of life. However, the extreme icy conditions make it a difficult challenge.
In a method which has been developed and passed down through generations, this ingenious way of fishing isn’t simple. Chip and Agnes Hailstone demonstrate how they’re able to catch potentially hundreds of whitefish a day, racing to bring in the prime catch of the season.
This clip is from the Life Below Zero series.
