Influencer overconsumption has gotten completely out of control.
From massive makeup rooms and endless PR packages to “you NEED this” TikToks, luxury hauls, viral beauty trends, and giant declutters, social media has completely changed what we think a normal amount of stuff looks like.
In this video, I’m talking about Jaclyn Hill, Jeffree Star, Mikayla Nogueira, Meredith Duxbury, and how beauty influencers helped turn shopping into content, content into aspiration, and aspiration into a never-ending cycle of buying more.
Because at some point, makeup stopped being something we used and became something we were supposed to collect.
We’re also getting into PR waste, affiliate marketing, de-influencing, TikTok’s obsession with “must-have” products, and why the algorithm constantly needs us to believe that whatever we already own just isn’t enough.
