Join mathematician and MOST Fellow Carli Peterson to explore how rates of change shape the world around us — starting with something as simple as inflating a balloon. Together, we will build a mathematical model from scratch, connect it to real-life problems in fields like medicine and agriculture, and see how math can help us understand everything from disease spread to crop growth.

Applying the rule over and over, or iterating the rule, often leads to remarkably beautiful objects that are called fractals. Join mathematician Sarah Koch in an exploration of different kinds of dynamical systems and the fractals that emerge from each. Along the way, meet many famous fractals including the Cantor set, the Sierpinski triangle, the Koch Snowflake, and several entertaining Julia sets. Special introduction by Dr. John H. Hubbard, Professor of Mathematics, Cornell University.
