Jakarta is one of the fastest-sinking cities in the world. Large parts of Indonesia’s capital are already below sea level, flooding has become routine, and millions of people live in areas that sink deeper every year.
In response, Indonesia has launched a $35 billion plan to abandon Jakarta as the capital and build an entirely new city known as Nusantara from scratch.
