It's running a business. And *shockhorror* running a business requires...investment! Please save the term "privilege" for referring to actual privilege.

This is a response video to the following videos on "UNPOPULAR WRITING OPINIONS" by:

Publishing is a business, but not everyone who self-publishes is going to treat self-publishing as their business–for many, it's just a hobby or personal project (but they are in denial about it).

Here's the thing: if you DON'T treat self-publishing as your business, don't expect to make your money back, because publishing is basically gambling, and you're actually doing this:

1. Write a book
2. Throw it up on KDP
3. ???
4. Profit!

That's cool if you're self-publishing to have a few copies of your book/s for you and your friends and family, but be honest about what you're doing: you're engaging in a (potentially very expensive) hobby (which has no ceiling on the amount of money you can spend on it).

For the rest of us, self-publishing is a BUSINESS. Businesses require...*gasp* investment!

Who would have thought that you'd need some form of equity or other method of funding in order to start a business?!

And if you skimp on the investment and DON'T put in the effort, the time or the resources in your business, you're going to end up with...a terrible product that no one wants to buy.

Shocker, that.
