It's transparently absurd to use the Bible as evidence for Jesus, and apologists know this. So one way they try to skirt this problem is by referring to each book of the Bible as an a separate "corroborating report" about Jesus' life - especially the gospels, which are the only books of the Bible that tell of his time on earth in detail. This is equally absurd, of course, and this language is just slapped on to allow Christians to feel vaguely smarter about using the Bible as a historical source.
