So Marc reviewed everything so far and suggested I change a few things to tighten up the altitude hold and turn of throttle smoothing in nav modes. I made his list of changes and flew again, repeating the test from the previous flight. It performed a lot better this time! Certainly enough to call it trustworthy and flyable without concern now... :) Autotune still pushed the FF way high on pitch, and pitch fees sluggish after, but I don't think that's related to the other issue. I tested before and after autotune and didn't see any real change...
