Dear all,
this week I'm playing "In the Ragtime Saloon," composed by Berndt Leopolder (Austria), published in April 2026 (Bergmann Edition). When I finalized the composer's engraving of this piece, I immediately found it interesting and fun, at the same time challenging to play and great to listen to. When I discovered the reference to Giuliani and classical music at the end of the piece, (whether it really is a reference, or just my interpretation, is not ensured yet ;-) ) I was thrilled and wanted to share it with you.
A ragtime saloon refers to a tavern or bar from the American Wild West and turn-of-the-century era (c. 1890–1915) where lively ragtime piano music was played.
Ragtime literally means "broken time" or "broken beat" and is a cheerful, syncopated piano music considered a precursor to jazz.

diese Woche spiele ich "In the Ragtime Saloon, komponiert von Berndt Leopolder (Österreich), veröffentlicht im April 2026 (Bergmann Edition). Während der Notensetzung fand ich es sofort interessant und lustig, zugleich anspruchsvoll zu spielen und toll zu hören. Als ich die Anspielung auf Giuliani und die klassische Musik am Ende des Stückes entdeckte, (ob es wirklich eine ist, oder nur ich es so interpretiere, ist noch nicht geklärt ;-) ) war meine Euphorie groß und ich wollte es euch hier unbedingt vorstellen.
Ein Ragtime-Saloon bezeichnet eine Schänke oder Bar aus der amerikanischen Wildwest- und Jahrhundertwende-Ära (ca. 1890–1915), in der lebendige Ragtime-Klaviermusik gespielt wurde.
Ragtime bedeutet wortwörtlich "zerrissene Zeit" oder "zerrissener Takt", ist eine fröhliche, synkopierte Klaviermusik, die als Vorläufer des Jazz gilt.
