Contemporary Art Issue and our exhibition space CAI Gallery are pleased to present Elusive Reality, a group exhibition featuring contemporary artists Ono En, Fabian Hübner and Jorg Karg. The exhibition presents four digital collage prints, five paintings and one installation, bound by the elusiveness of reality and our deficient perception of reality.

Some say in the postmodern era humanity comes to an understanding there is no such thing as ‘the truth’ or ‘reality’. There are merely individual experiences of ‘a’ reality and flashes of several truths. As a result, the postmodern artist creates his own, as does the viewer in their perception of the artwork. But in the sum of all these individual experiences, different realities and flashes of truth, an elusive reality seems to manifest itself.

Ono En – an anagram for ‘no one’ – is a conceptual artist (collective) marked by this elusiveness as the main concept implies the artist does not exist. This impossible absence examines metaphysical issues and can be interpreted as the ultimate performance in which the artist itself dissolves and stops to exist.

From the conceptual approach towards the elusiveness of reality we head over to the philosophical point of view with the German painter Fabian Hübner (born in 1982 in Freiburg, Germany, lives and works in Stuttgart, Germany). Hübner creates an alphabet of symbols functioning as the structural element of meaning, questioning and representing the eternal uncertainty, relativity or even impossibility of what one perceives as ‘reality’ or ‘the truth’.

Further, digital collage artist Jorg Karg (born in 1982, lives and works in Germany) takes a more direct approach with his immersive images. The German artist focusses on the individual experience and how our subjective perception is shaped by our visual culture. ‘Jorg Karg’ is a pseudonym, as the artist states his own person is irrelevant when it comes to experiencing his works.
