Cowboy, the scat detecting golden retriever, is trained to detect scat of long-tailed weasels, Everglades mink, and spotted skunk.
FWC biologists are currently working to learn more about the distribution of skunks in Florida. Scat detection dogs are an active form of survey and beneficial for locating species with large home ranges, that occur in low densities.
