What does climate justice look like? Who is disproportionately impacted by climate change and who has been leading the efforts —for generations —to mitigate its effects?
In our second episode of In Progress, we talk to New School professor Leonardo Figueroa Helland, Assistant Director of the Tishman Environment and Design Center Mike Harrington (MS ESPM '18), and current students as they discuss the process of dismantling oppressive systems in order to adequately address climate change.
Leonardo Figueroa Helland is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Environmental Policy and Sustainability Management Program (EPSM). He works at the intersection of diverse critical paradigms to study how indigenous knowledges combine with various transformative approaches to address environmental challenges, climate crises, and social injustices. He leads the Indigeneity section at the Tishman Environment and Design Center, and his work can be viewed here: tishmancenter.org/indigeneity
