Speaking to a crowd of thousands at Saginaw Valley State University, former president Donald Trump criticized the disaster response to Hurricane Helene by the Biden and Harris administration. He repeated a claim voiced by some conservative lawmakers that alleged the Biden administration spent Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) funds on services for migrants rather than hurricane relief. A White House spokesperson has called such claims false, saying: FEMA’s Disaster Relief Fund is “specifically appropriated by Congress to prepare for, respond to, recover from and mitigate impacts of natural disasters. It is completely separate from other grant programs administered by FEMA or (the U.S. Department of Homeland Security).” (Video provided by Associated Press)
