On 6 November, ASPI was pleased to host a fireside discussion with Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, Belarusian democracy advocate who leads a government-elect from exile. Ms Tsikhanouskaya is Head of the United Transition Cabinet and President-elect of Belarus and she joined ASPI's Executive Director, Justin Bassi, in Canberra for a conversation on the future of Belarus and her hope for democracy.

They discuss Lukashenko's repression of the Belarusian people and the dire human rights situation for political prisoners, as well as Lukashenko's relationship with Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping and why what happens in Ukraine matters for the future of Belarus. They also discuss Ms Tsikhanouskaya's personal story and her journey into politics, and the work being done by her government-in-exile to ensure Belarusians outside of Belarus don't become stateless.
