This is a live performance of a mashup idea by composer Jeremy Allen, realized the FiveOne Experimental Orchestra. The plan was to combine a piano version of Frank Ocean's "Thinkin Bout You" with the first part of Terry Riley's "In C" bringing them together at the concert for the first time without rehearsal. FiveOne XO and I learned our parts separately and, are hearing the combined result for the first time along with the audience. Because of this, there's a sense of anxiety and excitement created here during the performance.
In this mashup, "In C" becomes the bed or the accompaniment to "Thinkin Bout You" which takes the spotlight. The piano solo, embellishes on melodies heard within "In C."
