The new Hornby HM7000 decoders have been available for a few weeks now and a few serious problems have been reported. The issues are linked to 2 things:

1) Connecting the decoders to the HM DC app rather than the HM DCC app
2) Using a DC (Analogue) controller as a power supply

Some pretty sensible, albeit unofficial, guidance has been put up by the moderators of the Hornby forums and it's unclear what action Hornby are going to take and what the official communication from Hornby is going to.
