Timely vaccination is important for earliest protection but individuals may miss vaccination for a variety of reasons. No one should miss out on the right to the protection that vaccines offer, simply because they are not able to access services in time.
The World Health Organization recommends that all national immunization programmes have a catch-up vaccination strategy to be implemented on an ongoing basis. This guidance summarizes global recommendations and operational implications for establishing or refining a catch-up vaccination policy and catch-up schedule as an essential part of a well-functioning immunization programme.
