Ascendant Studios has now let go of around 45% of its staff just one month after the release of Immortals of Aveum. Reports from former staff indicate that this was a result of Immortals of Aveum missing its sales goals. This really stinks and we need to talk about it. Immortals of Aveum was a new Singleplayer FPS game set in Unreal Engine 5, and the honestly was a pretty fun game. Not amazing, but certainly not horrible. Immortals of Aveum was Ascendant Studios very first game and they managed to put together a triple A quality shooter with a team of just over a hundred. However the publishers allowed the game to release at quite possible the worst time of the year in terms of a competitive launch window. Games like Immortals need to release in the spring or in the summer where they aren't battling with the biggest releases of the year. It's a shame and I am so sorry for everyone who was let go from Ascendant Studios. They made a cool game in an original universe, and we really don't get to see many Singleplayer FPS only games anymore. I hope this trend stops and that the Singleplayer FPS space doesn't continue to fizzle out further.
