Immerovigli is a picturesque village situated at the center west part of Santorini, not far away from the center of Fira, the island's capital town. It is considered one of the most beautiful balconies of the Aegean, due to its location above a cliff that offers a breathtaking view of the Aegean Sea, as well as the caldera and the volcano. The name Imerovigli comes from the word vigla which means "viewpoint", since during the old times, this location allowed villagers to see the pirate ships approaching. Skaros Rock is a large volcanic promontory extending into Santorini’s caldera, on which are the ruins of the fortress of Kasteli, built between 1205 and 1230.
