Speaking on the Revenge Of podcast, Vellani said, "People showed up on the first week. Nobody really believed in superhero fatigue. Nobody really believed that this movie was going to fail and they were over superhero movies. They wanted it to succeed. I think we're so used to being cynical and assuming that everything new coming out is going to suck and it's all propaganda, or people's attention spans are low. No, we can appreciate a good thing when we see it." Her comments come as Spider-Man: Brand New Day continues its historic run, already closing in on $2 billion worldwide after overtaking Avengers: Endgame for the biggest US domestic opening ever.
I completely agree with this take. Superhero films can absolutely still be great, and audiences will show up in massive numbers when they are. That said, it's worth noting the debate isn't fully settled either, since we're only a few months removed from Supergirl underperforming at the box office, which brought that same fatigue conversation roaring right back.
