I've been making a significant effort to offset my energy usage during the winter cashback events, but financially, it's just not worth it. The maths just doesn't seem to add up. Maybe I've got it all wrong, but it's time for a moan.
This is a totally unscripted chat about the National Grid Winter Cashback scheme in the UK and an example of why I feel it's not adding up as it should.
Some of you may say they don't have to do this at all, so it's free money. I don't buy that because National Grid only does this because they need people to do it. Not maintaining grid frequency and not generating enough energy to meet demand is a serious problem for them. This isn't just a generous gift.
