Exciting discoveries can be found in the most unremarkable of places... like, on this rusty car door, for example.
Field Museum scientists and their collaborators came across this 1984 Ford Bronco parked on the side of the road in Puerto Rico during a research expedition. They were looking for lichens: plant-like organisms that are comprised of a symbiotic relationship between an algae, and a fungus. After trying to figure out how to get the entire vehicle back to the Field in Chicago, they settled on taking the door. Today, we're still learning new things about the lichens that call this rusty door home.

![Birding adventures w/ the Audubon Society [Part 2]!
I’ve teamed up with @audubongreatlakes7343 to check out some of the restoration work they’re doing in the Calumet region on the southeast side of Chicago. It’s such an interesting area, as major industry has reshaped the wetlands where so many elusive marshland birds and other animals call home.
Indian Ridge Marsh and Powderhorn Lake are two such areas. Together with the Forest Preserves of Cook County, and the Chicago Parks District, Audubon Great Lakes is working on the ground to put conservation efforts into action - like (strategic) fires!
This is No. 2 in a 3-part series w/ Audubon GL - stay tuned for our final chapter next week where I interview their Conservation Director about the progress they’re making and learn more about secretive marsh birds 🔎🐦⬛

This is the last video in our miniseries together, and while I’m so bummed to be wrapping this up I can’t wait to go out this Spring to see what migrants decide to pass through. If you get a chance to look for birds out here I’d love to hear what you find!
