I love dawless gear — the hands-on creativity, the immediacy, the focus on performance.
But I’ve always felt limited by what it could do… and how much it all costs.
So I decided to build my own solution.
This is the GrooveDock — a custom 3D-printed MPC (Music Production Companion, ba dum tssssss...) powered by a €100 Mini PC, a 10-inch touchscreen, and a Focusrite Scarlett Solo audio interface, all housed in a case I designed with Planeta 3D, a Portuguese 3D printing company (https://www.planeta3d.pt/).
In this video I’ll show:
• How the GrooveDock evolved from my original Mini PC companion
• How it connects with my dawless setup
• Real-time jams using hardware and software synths and effects inside Ableton Live
• The design process, thermals, and first-prototype challenges
• Future plans — modular add-ons, PowerBank power, etc
It’s a mix of DIY engineering, music tech design, and creative workflow — a project born from curiosity and necessity.
