Why would a quilt shop owner tell you she doesn’t buy quilt kits? 🧵
In Episode #225, I’m showing you why choosing your own fabrics is one of my favorite parts of quilting — and why I don’t want someone else deciding what my finished quilt should look like!
Using the *Sew Place Like Home* Wizard of Oz quilt from Art East Quilt Company, I’ll show you how I would rethink some of the suggested fabric choices — from Dorothy’s ruby slippers and hair to Glinda’s sparkling dress and the Tin Man.
Then we’ll look at one of my favorite patterns, *Happy Holidays* from Atkinson Designs, to talk about something just as important as choosing your fabrics: deciding WHERE those fabrics should go.
We’ll cover:

🎨 Color, contrast and saturation
📏 Mixing different fabric scales
✨ Using texture and sparkle to add interest
↔️ What to consider with directional fabrics

Patterns are a starting point — they don't have to make every decision for you.
Choosing fabrics and deciding where they go should be part of the FUN of quilting. Look through your stash, visit your local quilt shop, pull out possibilities and experiment. Make the quilt YOURS!
