Welcome to I’ll Knit (& Spin!) If I want To! I asked y’all to send in some of your questions (from everything from fiber arts, to designing and on!) so I could put together a little video for y’all every Friday doing my best to answer your questions!

In this week’s episode we cover:

1. I’ve cast on for Ooey Gooey and was wondering if you recommend catching floats? If so, can you recommend a technique to do this? Thanks in advance!

2. I have a question about spinning. You’ve inspired me to start spinning and after taking classes for drop spindle and wheel spinning, I’ve decided on an e-spinner which should arrive in a few weeks! I love how hand pained braids look in the braid, but I’m not loving how I see them spinning up because I’m not the biggest fan (yet) of striping with consistent repeats. I’d prefer if I could get the colour repeats to look closer to how they are in the braid (much shorter repeats), or more like a speckled or even a tonal. Is there a method that could accomplish that? Is this even possible? I’d even be ok muddying up the overall colours in the final yarn, I just enjoy seeing the new pop of colour as they come up while you spin.

3. As knitters/crafters, we often come back from a vacation with a special crafty souvenir such as a locally made skein of yarn. Do you have a go-to souvenir you come home with?

4. Hi Andrea! As a relatively novice and also monogamous knitter (so far), I have a small yarn stash. I’ve been buying more patterns and attending more fiber shows (heading to Sacred Sheep next!) and I find myself wanting to buy more and more yarn, but I may not even have a project in mind for it yet! How do you determine how much and of what kind of yarn to stock up on when you find something you love? Is there a general rule of thumb I’m not aware of for how much yardage to snag or of what kind of yarn to keep stocked up on? Thanks so much!

5. I struggle with knowing which yarn I should alternate skeins when knitting and which yarn it may work out okay if I don't alternate skeins. I know that you should alternate with indie dyed yarn, but does the same rule apply for all brands (e.g., knitting for olive, de rerum natura, sandnes garn). Do you alternate skeins with every garment or not always? Thanks so much for your advice!
