Welcome to I’ll Knit (& Spin!) If I want To! I asked y’all to send in some of your questions (from everything from fiber arts, to designing and on!) so I could put together a little video for y’all every Friday doing my best to answer your questions!

In this week’s episode we cover:

1. I fell in love with the Brume sweater as soon as I saw it and bought myself a kit in the Oh Dang! DK (in the beautiful Aquemini). I just started caking the yarn up to cast on and it took me 45 minutes to get one cake done! Do you have any tricks for caking up a super sticky fiber like the Oh Dang!? I have never worked with anything like this before and it was such a shock how grippy it was!

2. Hello! I want to knit the Inclinations Cowl with two skeins of handspun yarn that I spun during tour de fleece this year, but they are a tad heavier than the yarn the pattern calls for. I swatched and got a fabric and gauge that will work with the stitch pattern, but if I knit the pattern exactly it’ll end up too big for my frame. I’m wondering if I can apply the instructions from the Traveler Cowl where it tells you to knit to a certain length since these two cowls are the same shape, or will modifying the repeats in the pattern not work given the stitch pattern?

3. My husband is always too hot, but he says he wants a sweater for Christmas this year. I love him, but I’m not making a fingering weight sweater in his size. I thought about fingering + mohair because it would be lighter weight than DK, but would that actually be warmer because the fuzz keeps warm air in? Any suggestions for yarns to use so this sweater ends up being something he will actually wear?

4. The more I see your Framed sweater, the more I want to make it. I like the idea of the sleeveless version. Years ago I bought Dream State Yarn in three colors that you actually helped me pick out at Indie Untangled for a Throwback. I still haven’t made it but was wondering if I could use that yarn for this sweater instead. It would create a bit of a fade from turquoise (melancholia that I actually have 2 of) to green (cataclysm) to yellow (salty dog). Do you think that would work or would it be too much? I have a neutral off white to contrast that my son bought me in Ireland. I would just need a color to frame it. Thank you so much for all the beautiful sweaters you design. I have knit them all in my mind and many in real life!

5. I am making my 3rd shifty sweater (because I just love this pattern so much!) In my previous ones, and even in other sweater patterns, I have ended up with the underarms sitting a bit low on my body. Does this mean the yoke is too long? Any advice on navigating this for a better fit?
